Power Barge II, Veracruz, Mexico.
In 1999 we were contracted to install four generating sets into a Power Barge berthed
in Veracruz, Mexico. These were four of the eight generating sets we removed from
the power plant at Port Hedland in Australia. The heavy lift ship Envoyager owned
by Mammoet, was chartered.to move all of the equipment from Australia to Mexico.
The engines were installed using the transport frames (which we constructed in Australia)
as the base frame for mounting. New alternators were installed for this application
and these were aligned precisely with the engines before the complete generating
unit was secured with resin. The pipework infrastructure to the generating units
were reconstructed using materials removed from the original installation in Australia.
The cooling system was mounted on top of the barge and fuel storage is in the hull.
We spent three months in Veracruz overseeing the installation and commissioning each
service connected to the engines culminating in each engine being test run with no
load. When the barge was complete it was moved to the Dominican Republic where we
commissioned the generating sets under full load generating power for the Dominican
grid system.
