Australia -
In 1998 we were contracted to inspect a 75 Mw power plant at Port Hedland, Western
Australia, to check condition and establish costs to dismantle the equipment and
move it to Veracruz, Mexico. Based on our report our client decided to go ahead with
the purchase and requested that we negotiate on their behalf. The entire plant was
purchased and we were contracted to plan and oversee the dismantling, using local
contract labour.
The eight units were removed and transported by road, 12 miles, to
the port where all of the equipment was stored prior to loading aboard a heavy lift
ship. The ship was capable of moving the complete load which totalled 3800 tons and
was loaded in 40 hours. The contract included working with the ship owners to coordinate
loading of the vessel within the narrow time frame and complying with the Captain's
loading plan.
The project was completed two weeks ahead of schedule and within budget.
