We inspected a Pratt & Whitney Gas turbine installed in a Brown Boveri power generator
on behalf of clients, provided them with a condition report and negotiated the purchase
of the unit. We were then contracted to dismantle the unit and remove it from the
power station site at Selkirk, Manitoba. This involved dismantling the unit into
several components for transportation by road.
There was no crane available to lift
the heaviest components of the gas turbine, weighing 70 tons, so this section was
manually jacked up onto slide rails and then move across onto the trailer.
The entire unit was dismantled and loaded to transport within a period of 8 days.
The temperature at this time ranged from -
All of the components were removed to our site for storage until their eventual move to a new location. At that time we reloaded all of the components using our site crane and jacking systems.
