Bermuda -
In 1995 we were contracted to move two 7 Mw Colt Pielstick generators from Indiana
and install them in the BELCO power station at Hamilton, Bermuda. The generators
were manually jacked onto rail cars and moved to the port at Philadelphia for shipment
to Bermuda.
These engines weighed almost 200 tons so a heavy lift ship was specially
chartered. On arrival in Bermuda the engines were offloaded at the No.1 Dock at Front
Street, Hamilton. Special arrangements had to be made to move the engines. Due to
their size some roads had to be closed.
At the power plant an opening was made in the wall of the power house to accept the new generators and a stone ramp was temporarily constructed to lift the engines up to the floor level of the power plant and allow the engines to be inserted through the wall.
